BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE JAPANESE SILK TOMESODE KIMONO with STUNNING
EMBROIDERY of ZEN TEMPLE
Tomesode are the most formal kimono worn by married women, they would
only be used on such occasions as attending the wedding of a close
relative or an official occasion. The kimono being offered here is the
most formal type of all, as it is black background with 5 families
crests and a design only on the bottom of the kimono. Tomesode make
excellent wall displays bringing an authentic part of traditional
Japanese culture into your home and they can also be successfully worn
as evening wear.
The beautiful design on this tomesode is done in autumnal colours
using Yuzen dye technique for the whole design and then it is
highlighted in gold for richness.The pattern is also heavily
embellished with gold hand done embroidery mainly on the temple but
also picking out details on some of the trees. The water in the
lake around the temple is decorated with gold and silver painted
detail. I believe the design shows Kinkakuji golden pavilion which was
built as part of a shogun's palace in 1397 but later became a
zen temple.. It is one of the most famous sightseeing places in Kyoto.
The rest of the design shows the surrounding lake, hills and trees.
The tomesode is of the highest quality. It is hand made and
hand-stitched in the traditional fashion. It is made of
finest quality, black, medium weight, soft, lustrous,silk. The
lower lining is the same black silk, the upper lining is made of a
white soft, glossy silk. The lining has the softest touch to the skin
and wearing this kimono would feel amazing.
Age and Condition: This tomesode is probably from the 1970s or
earlier - mid Showa period (1926-1989). It is in excellent vintage
condition. The outside is near mint, there is one small light stain
near the roof of the temple, which is not conspicuous. The fine
silk lining has wholly tanned with age and shows some light patina
marks which is normal with aged silk. These are, of course, in the
lining and would not normally be seen. There is nothing to stop this
fabulous tomesode being worn or displayed.
Size: Sleeve to sleeve length is 127cm/50â€, overall length is
161cm/63.5†and the width across the back (side seam to side seam)
is 64cm/25â€. The quality of this kimono is reflected in the weight
of 1200g.

higher than you think. Please note the prices are in GB pounds. For
instance airmail to USA would be £13-17 depending on whether you want
insurance or not.
Postal rate: As this is a valuable item, I am only offering signed for
service. It is heavy and so will be approximately £8.50 with
insurance up to £250 for UK, for other countries it will be more and
can only be calculated depending on the exact destination and speed of
delivery required.

Vintage Womens Embroidered Japanese Red Silk Wedding Kimono
This kimono is in good condition. It is heavily embroidered with great
detail that even my camera cannot pick up! This kimono is from
Yokodana. The person modeling it stands 5' 11" with shoulders 18" from
side to side. I do not know the size of this kimono. The stitching is
coming off of the lining that goes across the top. I have pictured the
lining that is coming off with arrows pointing where the unstitching
starts and ends. I don't know much about kimonos so I won't be able to
answer technical questions about it.
