Very Nice 1890 CC Carson City Morgan Silver Dollar!
Last Price: $71.00 Ending Date and Time (GMT): 2004-10-29 00:57:22 Howdy! We're back to unload our most recent discoveries from our
archaeological dig into my parent's basement - and yes, it's still a
jungle down there...
This particular auction item - an 1890 Carson City Morgan Silver
Dollar - comes with a story, and an important lesson for all Amateur
Basement Archaeologists: look through absolutely everything you come
across, no matter how vile or disgusting it might seem...
While going through massive piles of dusty, moldy, spider-infested
trash (geez, this is sounding like the upcoming sequel to Indiana
Jones & The Last Crusade), we came across a 75-year old Union Leader
Pipe Tobacco tin; we gagged at the thought of opening up yet another
partially-used tin of ancient pipe tobacco (not a pleasant discovery -
and we've had way too many of those types of discoveries lately... I
mean, did you know that KFC Potato Wedges stay flexible & moist even
after ten years of storage? We didn't.)...
Anyway, we held our breath & opened up the tin...
But for once, there were no unpleasant surprises - no Potato Wedges,
no ancient banana peels, no used Kleenexes...
Inside the tin were several items held for obvious safe-keeping, most
notably:
⢠One of my uncle's old leather wallets, filled with Philippine
currency printed during the Japanese Occupation, all of it in dead
mint condition;
⢠A battered old coin purse, filled with a wide variety of very old
State Tax Tokens;
⢠And a two-pocketed leather coin purse with old inserted celluloid
sleeves - upon opening both sides, out poured 16 Silver Dollars - 9
Morgan & 7 Peace Dollars.
And with that, you now know everything we know about this coins.
Really. (So much for our archaeological skills.)
Based on their dates, we have a few theories on why they were
gathered... but other than the fact that the shinier of the coins were
gathered together on one side of the purse, that's about it. (We will
be auctioning all of the coins - so be sure to check out our other
auctions over the next couple of days! We'll also post the Occupation
currency and tax tokens a little bit later.)
Please note: we are not coin collectors. The few coins I did have
listed here before on eBay were ones I had inherited directly. I have
no idea whatsoever how any of these 16 coins will grade...
So anyway - here's the 1890 Carson City Morgan Silver Dollar, up for
your auction & oogling pleasure. I've tried to make sure that anyone
looking at it here on eBay can see all of its possible flaws (not too
hard considering my lack of decent close-up photography skills); in
addition, I've photographed all of these silver dollars through a
magnifying lens as well, so that you could examine them as closely as
possible. I'd rather be totally upfront & honest about the items we're
selling, than to make a few extra bucks by trying to hide any possible
flaws. That's just how we do things. ;)
That said, they're all pretty neat... especially considering the
manner in which we found them. It's almost worth our inhaling 45 years
of mildew & dirt. (Note we used the word "almost." );)
As such, we're starting them all at $1.00, with no reserve; and
whoever wins them, wins them at whatever price they get.
For our coin auctions, we accept either a cashier's check, a USPS
postal money order, or PayPal - but if you're using PayPal for these
coin auctions, we can only accept Paypal if it is paid for with a
positive Paypal Balance, AND it ships to a Confirmed address. (Sorry,
but we're just following the advice of some coin-experienced friends
on this matter.)
We're very flexible as to what shipping method you'd prefer, so please
contact us about the cost of shipping plus the required insurance...
and of course, we will be glad to combine shipping with any of our
other items as a way of saving you money.
The winning bidder must contact us within 3 days of winning this
auction, or we will be forced to relist this coin. Payment should also
be received within 7 days, or (again) we will be forced to relist this
coin. Pretty simple conditions, eh?
If you are unsure about the above payment options & conditions, please
email us before bidding!
And of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to email
us.
You can bid with confidence: just check our feedback and you'll see
we're dependable & we get things done pretty rapidly... so please be
real about bidding - if you aren't going to buy this coin, please
don't bid...
Thanks for looking... and please check out the rest of these coins as
we list
