Vintage Silver Charm Enamel Edelweiss Flower

©The lovely alpine Edelweiss Flower, which in the German language
means noble and white, is arguably the most popular symbol of the
Alpine regions of Europe. Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and
France all have a special place in their heart for this silvery
botanical "star". The Edelweiss flower has since time immemorial been
valued medicinally and as a talisman to ward off evil. Most
importantly it has been regarded as a mountain "Love Charm". Young men
often tried to impress their girl and prove their bravery and devotion
by risking life and limb to collect a small bouquet of these snowy
blossoms from the high crags and peaks where they grow. Though the
plant is now protected from picking, men still wear the Edelweiss
flower symbol on their hats and lederhosen as a medal of honor. Love
of this unusual blossom has spread throughout the world where it now
signifies purity and lasting love, and represents the pristine Alpine
Meadows. Images of Edelweiss are found on charms, postcards,
souvenirs, clothing and houshold furnishings, often in combination
with the Alpine blue Gentian and red Alpenrose. One can make a
wonderful collection of them.

Charm #9 (Only, Others auctioned separately). Tiny Edelweiss flower
has beautiful raised enamel. Continental silver, not marked. It
measures approximately 1/2 inch by 3/8 inch.
